Building confident, capable managers from day one

Across sectors, we are seeing the same challenge.

Talented people are promoted because they are excellent at their job. But no one has shown them how to manage.

They move from being part of the team to leading former peers. They are expected to set direction, give feedback, manage performance and keep work moving, often without structured support.

The result is avoided conversations, blurred boundaries, inconsistent expectations and new managers who feel underprepared. New Manager Essentials is designed to address this directly.

Participants will leave these sessions being able to:

  • Step confidently from peer to manager, and set clear expectations, accountability and supervision.

  • Deliver results through others by prioritising well and delegating with clarity.

  • Handle difficult conversations early, constructively and without damaging relationships.

  • Build teams that communicate clearly, share ownership and work in a coordinated way.

  • Develop practical management habits that create consistent, sustainable team performance.

Your tutor

Ed Moss is a leadership and management coach who specialises in supporting new and emerging managers to lead with clarity, confidence and integrity.

He holds a degree in leadership and management and brings more than 15 years of practical experience, including over a decade managing teams himself. Through his work he helps first-time managers navigate the transition from colleague to leader, one of the most challenging shifts in a career.

Ed focuses on the practical skills that make management effective day to day. This includes setting clear expectations, structuring work, holding boundaries and having honest conversations when issues arise. His approach helps managers build trust and accountability within their teams while maintaining their own resilience and balance.

By combining real management experience with coaching expertise, Ed equips managers with tools they can apply immediately, helping organisations build stronger, more confident leadership at every level.

“Ed’s innovative and deeply personal approach was a real breath of fresh air to the ‘usual’ training days. He brought soul to the process and helped us reconnect with each other and the passion that unites us - not easy to do on zoom, but he really knows how to do it well”. Jim Wallace, Chief Operations Officer, Aberlour Children’s Childcare Trust

“You held the spaces for us to reflect incredibly well through some tough conversations and then helped us connect that to taking action so we could make the most of our collective talents and improve alignment with our own personal goals and life situations ” Alice Edgerley, HR Director, Assemble Studios
